$100,000

One day I had my 6th grade class write about having $100,000 extra. They were told they could NOT spend the money on themselves. My class wrote about what they would spend the money on and who. Most of them spent their money compassionately: homeless shelters, buying houses for their parents, and paying off bills. One student did ignore the directions saying he would buy his brother a house and then when invited over would steal the leftover money and run to the airport to fly away. At least he's thinking, right? One little boy decided he would spend his money on "Mrs. johstn" (me. I wish you could see his handwriting and the actual spelling *smile*) I will share with you what I would get if this certain boy had money!

I would buy Miss Johnson a skateboard. 100,000 skateboards. I'm a good skater. Are you? And $20,000,000,000 house all together. and fish and big tv and a dog and cat and zoo and a shark and a BIG bed and a black (he didn't finish what was black...i'll take it) and a alien and E.T. and a flag and a school.

I feel loved!

Zest

One day a student of mine, a sweet little girl, walked up to me and handed me a stack of papers. After looking through them, I found they were recipes. She had some time and thought it would be fun cut some out and then, lovingly share them with me. (my kids are funny) Surprisingly I found a few recipes to try out. Last Saturday I decided to make a tomato / spinach strata. It actually was delicious. We used Jarlsberg cheese, which I hadn't cooked with before. I also used this baking excursion to buy some cute small white souffle cups. The directions asked for the cheese to be grated. I looked in our drawer and found what I thought was a grater. So i grated. And grated. And grated. And grated. I got the job done, but it did take quite some time! I found out later I was using a zester board. Funny. Here I was feeling accomplished with my cooking and made such a silly mistake. Anna went out the next day and bought me an actual cheese grater. Keeps my humble!

Give Thanks

I am so excited. My sister, who couldn't come out for Thanksgiving, now can! I haven't seen her since July. Too long! I haven't updated forever, really. Much has happened. Maybe we'll get caught up. I went home for about a month. I had a garage sale. My grandmother, who had been struggling with cancer went home to be with God. I spent a lot of time with the Kinzer family, remembering my grandma! I bought a car. I did a photo shoot with my sister in SD (as in south dakota, not san diego). I visited our old friends in Gregory, SD. I spent a lovely day with the trimble family. I hung out with Iris. I ate fresh veggies from the garden. I turned 25. I went to California to visit my friend Danielle. I've healed some. I do have lots of pictures, but there's not space. I shall try to be better! I began a new blog more focused on things that are inspiring me! Check it out!!
